Gila Bend, Arizona
Runway Repair
Contract Value: $7,600,000.00
Owner: U.S. Air Force
Facility: Gila Bend Auxiliary Airfield
MRM was recently awarded the repair of Runway 17/35 of the Gila Bend Auxiliary Airfield for the Department of the Air Force with a contract value of $7.6 million.
This design-build project will entail the construction to mill and overlay the existing runway at Gila Bend to support the 56th Fighter Wing of Luke Air Force Base. Specific characteristics will include 14” thick Portland Concrete Cement touchdown areas that will be 1,000’ in length and 150’ wide at both runway ends. The PCCP mix will be designed in-house by MRM Construction Services, and will be produced on-site at the airfield. Subgrade preparation will include a Cement Treated Base, which also will be developed by MRM Construction Services. The 6,500’ interior asphalt zone will be selectively milled and overlayed with a leveling course that will vary in depth from 3” to 9”, and then will be covered with a Petromat® fabric to separate the surface course of asphalt, that will be self-performed by MRM Construction Services crews. MRM Construction Services will also provide oversight for airfield lighting and airfield striping services.
